There’s a gracefulness in being a great athlete. It also takes tremendous athleticism to be an incredible dancer. North Buncombe High School’s freshmen Physical Education teachers focused on both skill sets, as students participated in a week-long dance unit that brought pop-culture and history to life.

Each day, students learned two iconic dances from eras spanning the 1930s through the 2000s, exploring not only the movement but also the cultural moments that made each dance wildly popular. Lessons included clear breakdowns of the dance origins, followed by engaging, era-specific video clips that deepened student understanding and excitement.

The grand finale took place on stage under strobe lights, giving students the full performance experience and showcasing the power of cross-curricular creativity.
